It shouldn’t come as a surprise that rodeos are a mainstay of summer excitement in Colorado, the size and scope ranging from small town to the nationally prominent. More than two dozen events are held throughout the state during the summer, and of course there’s the National Western Stock Show each January at the National Western Complex, with all its pageantry and rodeo thrills.
The Greeley Stampede in late June and early July draws upwards of a quarter-million attendees, and attractions include the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo, a carnival, the Big Buckle Ball, art exhibits and Fourth of July parade. Cattlemen’s Days in Gunnison started in the 1800s when ranchers got together between spring calving and summer haying to take a much needed break. They competed with each other in riding and roping, and today the event includes a PRCA rodeo, livestock exhibits, parade, dog show, carnival and dance.
Southeastern Colorado has the early August Sand and Sage Round-Up in Lamar, and the Logan County Fair and Rodeo is held in Sterling in northeastern Colorado also in August. Until then check the rodeo events out .
